About Code Craft North

You work directly with the person building your website

I’m Carl Ball, the developer behind Code Craft North. I combine around 15 years of web experience with a small, personal service for businesses that want clear advice and a website built properly.

Why I started it

Experienced standards without the agency layer

I have built websites for organisations ranging from small local firms to national brands. Earlier in my career, I worked as a web development project manager at one of the UK’s largest digital agencies. It showed me what strong delivery looks like—but also how agency structures, handoffs and fees can leave smaller businesses behind.

I now work as a lead web developer for a major UK occupational health provider alongside running Code Craft North. That keeps me close to demanding work in performance, security and accessibility, and I bring those standards into every client project.

Code Craft North is deliberately small. I take on work I can support properly, communicate directly and stay accountable for what I build. You are never passed between salespeople, designers and developers who each know only one part of the project.

My aim is simple: give smaller organisations a dependable website and honest technical support without pretending they need a large agency.

What working together feels like

Clear, direct and grounded in the real goal

A website should help your customers understand and trust your business. The way it is built should feel equally straightforward.

Clarity over complexity

I explain what I recommend, why it matters and what it will cost before work begins.

Performance with purpose

Lightweight code, accessibility and search-friendly structure support customers—not technical vanity.

Honest scope

If something is included, separately quoted or unnecessary, I will say so plainly.

Support from the builder

Questions and updates come back to me, so you do not have to re-explain your business each time.

How I work

A personal process with clear review points

  1. 01

    Understand

We discuss your customers, goals, constraints and what the website genuinely needs to achieve.

  2. 02

    Design and build

I shape the structure and hand-build the site, gathering your feedback at sensible points.

  3. 03

    Launch and support

I test the important details, launch clearly and provide the level of ongoing help you chose.

A practical promise

I will recommend the simplest suitable route

Sometimes that is a managed subscription. Sometimes it is a one-off build. Occasionally, the honest answer is that your current website only needs a few focused improvements.

The first conversation is about understanding the problem, not steering you towards the highest invoice.
